What should go into a 3D print price?

Filament is only one part of the cost. A useful estimate can also account for printer time, the time you personally spend preparing or finishing the item, packaging or hardware, failed prints, marketplace or payment fees, and the profit the business needs to keep operating.

The machine-rate field is intentionally yours to set. There is no universal correct hourly rate for every printer or business. You may use it to represent electricity, maintenance, depreciation, replacement reserve, or another machine-time model that makes sense for your operation.

Profit margin is not the same as markup

This calculator uses a target profit margin: profit as a percentage of the final selling price. A 30% margin does not mean simply adding 30% to cost. The calculator works backward from your costs, selling fees, and target margin to estimate the required selling price.

Start with better material cost

If you know the grams used by your slicer and what you paid for the spool, Makeratory's simpler calculator can estimate the material portion first.

Use the result as a decision tool, not a promise

A calculator cannot know your local market, product quality, taxes, shipping arrangement, licensing costs, demand, or what a customer is willing to pay. Use the result to understand your assumptions and avoid accidentally ignoring real costs, then decide whether the product makes sense at the price your market supports.

Turn one-off pricing math into a repeatable product workflow

Makeratory keeps filament costs, product recipes, non-printed supplies, production, finished inventory, and sales together. When a product changes, the information that drives your decisions stays attached to the product instead of living in a separate calculator or spreadsheet.
