Filament cost per gram calculator
Enter what you paid for a spool and its filament weight to find your material cost per gram. Add the grams used by a print to estimate its filament cost.
How filament cost per gram works
Divide the spool price by the amount of filament on the spool. A $19.99 1 kg spool contains 1,000 g, so the filament costs about $0.020 per gram. A 127 g print would use about $2.54 of filament.
Spool price ÷ filament grams = cost per gram. Then multiply that rate by the grams used by the print to estimate material cost.
Material cost is only one part of 3D print pricing
Filament gives you a useful baseline, but a selling price may also need to account for failed prints, machine time, electricity, labor, packaging, marketplace fees, hardware, shipping materials, and profit.
Use the price you actually paid
Discounts, bulk purchases, taxes, and different spool sizes can change your real material rate. If you want the calculator to reflect your shop, use the actual landed price and filament weight for the spool rather than a generic average.
Know how much filament is still available
Cost per gram tells you what material consumption costs. A separate inventory question is whether a partial spool still contains enough material for the next job.

Stop recalculating the same spool data
Makeratory keeps spool price, quantity remaining, material, color, storage location, and product usage together. That gives a growing shop a reusable source of truth instead of another one-off calculation.
